Ginger is a perennial plant indigenous to tropical Asia and cultivated in other tropical areas, especially Jamaica. It has a recorded history of use in China dating from the 4th Century B.C. Used primarily as a spice, it can be added to fruits, vegetables, salads, meats, poultry, and beverages.
