Acetyl Carnitine is involved in the metabolism within brain cells, enhances the activity of a chemical called acetylcholine which is involved in memory and learning, and appears to aid in the removal of cellular waste from the brain. Acetyl Carnitine is frequently utilised to improve mental functioning, particularly in the elderly and those suffering age related degenerative mental function. Alpha Lipoic Acid has powerful antioxidant properties in it's own right. It has been shown to combat hydroxyl radicals (the most destructive free radicals known), peroxide and hydrogen peroxide radicals (which damage fats and brain chemicals), and singlet oxygen (known to damage the lungs and skin tissue).
