Cysteine is a sulphur-containing Non Essential Amino Acid which helps in the maintenance of the Immune System by helping to cleanse the body of impurities. Cysteine also plays a role in energy metabolism. Like a number of other Amino Acids, it can be used as fuel if necessary; it can be converted into Glucose, which can then be oxidised for energy or stored as Glycogen.
