In Indian herbal tradition, brahmi (Bacopa monniera) is used as both herb and vegetable and taken long-term as a “brain tonic.” It is known to support structural and functional integrity of nerve cells and the central nervous system.* Spikenard (Nardostachys jatamansi) is the Himalayan equivalent of the calmative herb valerian. These herbs are gentle, yet effective.
