DESCRIPTION
Cancer refers to uncontrolled and abnormal cell growth,
which may have more than 250 different forms. The cells
develop into a lump (or tumour) which may be malignant (cancerous)
or benign (non-cancerous).
Malignant cells spread
(metastasize) to adjacent tissues or throughout the body
via the Lymphatic System. Benign tumours remain localised
and may disappear of their own accord (spontaneous remission)
or become malignant.
With the popularity of
outdoor pursuits in sunny climates, there is an increase
in the incidence of Skin cancer over the years. Lung cancer
is most often the result of Smoking cigarettes, as well
as exposure to other forms of environmental pollution. Colon
cancer seems to be directly related to the modern diet.
Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men.
Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in American
women and is the leading cause of death during middle age.
Due to the serious nature
of the condition it is better to visit a health professional
for personal advice on nutritional support.
