Age Spots
Description
Age spots are flat brown areas of Skin that may develop, especially
on the exposed surface of face and hands, with the coming
of middle age. They are sometimes referred to as liver spots.
Two medical terms are used
to describe this condition: senile lentigo, or actinic keratosis.
Actinic keratosis develops over a lifetime of exposure to
the sun, resulting in localised thickening of the Skin. It
is potentially malignant.
In an older person, a former
beauty mark can turn out to be Hutchinson’s freckle.
Often malignant, it should be removed.
